St Mark's Primary School Curriculum

Our School Curriculum at St Mark's

Our school curriculum includes all learning and other experiences that our children take part in at St Mark's Primary School.

A large part of our curriculum is the National Curriculum but in addition we provide experiences in life skills e.g. first aid, economics awareness and living with our families.  All our school trips, special days and after school sporting events form part of our curriculum as does the work in PSHE.

Our curriculum is balanced and broadly based and:

  • promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils.
  • prepares pupils at the school for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

Challenge

Lessons are planned to ensure that there are no barriers to every pupil achieving,  We have high expectations for every pupil in our school.  Challenging work is set for pupils whose attainment is significantly above the expected standard, just as work is planned appropriately for children with special needs.

The Core Subjects

English, Mathematics and Science form the core subjects and a central part of our school curriculum.  Although much of these subjects are taught in their own right, English and Mathematics also permeate other areas in the curriculum.

Mathematics has a place in all subjects and lessons are planned to develop numeracy and mathematical skills in, for example science, geography and history.

The teaching and learning of English provides access to the whole curriculum.  Fluency in the English language is an essential foundation for success in all subjects,
