Our Early Years Foundation Stage
Our preschool, Lttle Sparkles, our nursery and our reception class are all part of St Mark's Early Years Foundation Stage.
Learning in our Early Years concentrates on seven areas split into prime and specific areas of learning.
The prime areas of learning are:
- communication and language
- physical development
- personal, social and emotional development.
The specific areas of learning are:
- understanding the world
- expressive arts and design
Much of the learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage is done through playing and exploring and being active and creative, both indoors and outside. There is a mix of adult-led and child-led and child-initiated activity. As children go through into reception class the balance will gradually shift towards more activities led by adults.
