Year Four

The Year Four class teacher is Miss MacDonald, Mrs Seoane also works in Year Four supporting the children in their learning.

In Year Four we continue to work hard on the core subjects of Maths and English constantly striving to improve the standard of our work.

In maths we now add and subtract using up to 4 digit numbers (thousands) and are expected to know and be able to use the multiplication facts up to 12 X 12.  We add and subtract fractions with the same denominator and recognise and write decimal equivalents of fractions such as ¼ = 0.25.  We find the perimeter and area of shapes and identify lines of symmetry in 2D shapes.

In English we continue to develop our reading using a wide range of fiction, poetry, plays, nonfiction and reference books.  We plan and draft stories, poems and non-narrative writing and continue to learn about grammar.  Work in grammar covers nouns, pronouns, conjunctions and learning to punctuate direct speech.

The Romans and Ancient Egyptians are studied in history and circuits and conductors and solids and liquids in science.

In geography climate, rivers, mountains, volcanoes, earthquakes and settlements are covered.  Children will learn to locate the world’s countries and study a region of the UK.

In the Autumn term all children will go swimming once a week.  They will also have P.E. on Friday with coaches from Chelsea Football Club.
